励磁系统故障时有发生，主要存在如下问题:
(1)由于原励磁装置运行时间久、机件老化、缺陷渐多，严重影响机组的安全运行。
(2)调节器元器件老化、板件损坏时有发生,备品供应困难。
(3)改变工况运行时的调节性能差,特别是在系统发生故障时，强励经常不能满足电网电压和系统运行的要求。
(4)换向器和电刷的维护工作量大,运行中更换碳刷时需要带电作业，且检修励磁机时必须停主机，很不方便;另外粉尘、噪音等对作业人员有一
定的危害。
(5)运行时整流子与电刷之间火花严重并伴有跳动，整流子换相工况恶化，曾经出现过环火，使机组被迫停机。整流子发生换相故障时又会对整流
子表面产生灼伤和损坏，绝缘性能下降。
(6)励磁绕组出现绝缘老化现象， 电气性能下降，引起励磁接地等故障，直接影响机组的正常运行。励磁回路绝缘下降，出现接地故障无法消除被
迫停机，切换到备用励磁机运行。
总之，这种同轴直流励磁机励磁方式，由于直流励磁机碳刷的使用，导致运行维护量增大，相复励励磁调节器由于制造工艺及其技术原因，在进行发
电机励磁电流调节的时候，存在调节速度慢、不够稳定及调节精度低等缺点
