励磁系统故障时有发生，主要存在如下问题:

(5)运行时整流子 与电刷之间火花严重并伴有跳动，整流子换相工况恶化，曾经出现过环火，使机组被迫停机。整流子发生换相故障时又会对整流子表面产生灼伤和损坏，绝缘性能下降。
(6)励磁绕组出现绝缘老化现象， 电气性能下降，引起励磁接地等故障，直接影响机组的正常运行。励磁回路绝缘下降，出现接地故障无法消除被迫停机，切换到备用励磁机运行。总之，这种同轴直流励磁机励磁方式，由于直流励磁机碳刷的使用，导致运行维护量增大，相复励励磁调节器由于制造工艺及其技术原因，在进行发电机励磁电流调节的时候，存在调节速度慢、不够稳定及调节精度低等缺点
